Chipocrite is Coming to AnimeNEXT!

Published on May 19th, 2012 in Announcements

What’s that?! Chipocrite will be performing at AnimeNEXT 2012!

Chipocrite

Chipocrite, a.k.a. Paul Weinstein, uses simple Nintendo Game Boy technology to create complex audio masterpieces in a style known as “chip music” — repurposing old video game hardware and other non-traditional electronics as synthesizers. His multifaceted but catchy compositions combine the nostalgic game sounds of his childhood with modern music influences. He’s excited to be back at AnimeNEXT following his memorable, audience-engaging, conga-line-spawning performance at last year’s con!

A former jazz/funk/rock bassist, Chipocrite was first exposed to Philadelphia’s budding chip scene in 2009. He quickly fell in love with the chip aesthetic and was determined to learn the ubiquitous Game Boy tracking software Little Sound DJ. In just a few short years, he has organized and performed at several renowned events and conventions including the Blip Festival, MAGFest, MangaNEXT, Animeworld Chicago, TooManyGames, 8static, Pulsewave and more; released Hit and Run, his first studio recording; and provided soundtracks for nationally televised commercials, video games, online videos and more. In late 2011, he also joined Philadelphia-based chip-prog-pop-rock supergroup Cheap Dinosaurs — as well as the band’s video-game cover side project, Autoscroll — on bass.

As a continuously developing chip musician and representative of the global chip community, Chipocrite is eager to share his unique insight into making music with “obsolete” hardware

We’re a small press comics team of three (two artists and our webtech) built on the foundation of the artworks of KEVIN BOLK.

Kevin Bolk is a freelance cartoonist, illustrator, and proud alumnus of Awesome University (his favorite imaginary alma mater). Although he’s done work for Nickelodeon, Tokyopop, Udon Entertainment, Blind Ferret Entertainment, and Voices For, he?s best known for his parody webcomics “It Sucks to be Weegie” and “Ensign Sue Must Die!” as part of Interrobang Studios’ Pot Luck Comics.

Sarah Martinez has spent her adult life working in comics and behind the scenes in the industry. She ran a store for 4 years, works in Comic Distribution, and founded Interrobang Studios with Kevin. She
inks and writes for the studio’s Trigger Star comic (www.triggerstar.com) & draws the goofy silent monster comic Spinks!
(www.spinkspink.com). Look for her panels which focus on the practicalities of comics and art as business.

The team has been putting out comics online for over 6 years at Interrobang Studios (http://www.interrobangstudios.com). The studio runs 4 webcomics simultaneously, 3 of them being all original works: Kevin’s I’m My Own Mascot (www.mascotcomic.com), Sarah’s Spinks (www.spinkspink.com), and their collaboration, Trigger Star (www.triggerstar.com).
