2022 Road Map

2022 Roadmap

2022 Roadmap

Our Revised Plan

Since we’ve released our original cheat sheet for 2022, we’ve gotten A LOT of positive feedback. As a result of the 2022 Call-Off, we’ve overhauled our roadmap to reflect our updated plans and Team’s current collaborations.

We’ll continue to update our roadmap as this year progresses and work diligently to release our 2023 roadmap in the early fall.

*Please be advised all dates listed are subject to change, if needed we will update the dates ASAP.

Table of Contents

Call-Off Details

Due to the recent developments with our venue, we’ve decided to call off all public-facing attractions of AnimeNEXT 2022. Meaning we will not be having an event for attendees, vendors, guests, etc. as we traditionally do.

You can read more about the call-off here: https://animenext.org/2022calloff/

*Please note that our Support Team will not answer any attendee questions regarding the “status” of any refund until after May 15th.

Recent Attendee Feedback

As expected, there were a lot of comments, thoughts, and feelings surrounding our 2022 call-off. We’re beyond grateful for the overwhelming support from our community and industry peers. Some of you even started weighing the pros/cons of future venues for the convention.

Naturally, with so many different opinions, some rumors have popped up. Unfortunately, even some major Anime Industry News sites had some inaccuracies, so we’d like to clear a few things up for everyone.

Is AnimeNEXT Dead?

Of course not having an in-person event has put pressure on the organization. Fortunately, our Team made critical decisions in early 2020 to audit our expenditures, reallocate resources, and cut costs to insulate ourselves. So confidently, we can say that we are planning to continue forward and forge a new path. This meme is a pretty accurate summary of our thoughts on the situation.

Our thoughts on the “is AnimeNEXT Dead?” questions

Will there be a virtual event?

No, we will not be holding a virtual event in 2022. We’re all zoom fatigued to the next dimension, we don’t want to add to that stress.

Even if we have some virtual-only content in the future it would be free with an option to support us, the same as our 2020 and 2021 events were. If this wasn’t the case we make it very clear up front.

Where will AnimeNEXT be located in 2023?

As of right now, we’re already looking at new venues for next year’s event. However, we plan to continue having the event in New Jersey as it has been historically. We’ll keep providing updates as more information is available.

April

Transfers, Deferments, & Refunds

As part of the call-off, we provided the AnimeNEXT 2022 membership holders the choice to pick one of three options: Transfer your membership to a partnered event, Deffer their memberships to AnimeNEXT 2022, or Have their AnimeNEXT 2022 memberships be refunded.

As of 4/13/22, the transfer and deferment form has closed, and our Team has started to process your submissions. To provide some insight, our process is:

  • Cross-checking each request against the AnimeNEXT 2022 registration database
  • Compile a master list of discount codes used for all deferments/ transfers and send out an email with this information
  • We’ll start the mass refund process and provide an email update

Our Team will go through these steps in the same order laid out above to ensure the process is as seamless as possible. We expect all of this to be completed by May 15th, 2022.

May

Collaborating with industry peers

Since we’re unable to have the public-facing attractions of AnimeNEXT;  We’re working with other events to bring our Team’s efforts and projects to life, even if it’s not at our event.

We’re currently working with our Peers to get all the details locked in.  We’re projecting to have all of this info by mid/end of May. We’ll continue to update this section as new info rolls out, as provide a more detailed look into each collaboration.

AnimeNEXT 2023 Planning

The Team is preparing for the logistical challenges we’ll face moving to a new venue in 2023. Unfortunately, we don’t have much to currently share on this topic since our Teams are still laying out the groundwork for our next evolution.

AnimeNEXT COVID-19 Safety Requirements

****THIS INFORMATION MAY HAVE CHANGED, PLEASE SEE https://animenext.org/covid19****

At AnimeNEXT our community members’ safety is our number one priority. This is why we have chosen to forgo in-person events over the past two years. So it should not come as a great surprise we’ve put together additional safety precautions required of all in attendance during AnimeNEXT 2022.

Everyone in attendance at AnimeNEXT 2022 will be required to provide proof of a completed vaccination treatment for SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2) aka Covid-19 no later than 5/26/2022. Additionally, everyone will be required to wear a mask at all times in convention spaces.

Those who are unable to receive a vaccination due to medical exemptions and are age 11 or under will still be able to attend but will need to provide some additional information to verify exemption status.

This decision was fueled by:

Please make sure to visit our Covid-19 Safety Requirements Help Article for updates and more information. You can access this at any time from our web site’s navigation bar under the INFO > Covid-19.

Vaccine Requirement

AnimeNEXT 2022 is a vaccine-mandated event (even if you HAD covid and recovered). Only those having received their completed vaccine regimen (plus boosters) and showing their Covid-19 Vaccination Record Card at registration will be admitted into the convention.

Please be sure to have a copy of your vaccine card available to show when picking up your badge. If you do not/cannot show proof of vaccine, you will not be permitted to attend and no refund will be issued.

COVID-19 Vaccine Verification

In order to verify your identity and vaccination status, EVERYONE must show a valid government-issued ID during the badge pickup process. You can view the forms of acceptable ID in the Check-in Requirements section of our Help Articles.

Once your verification is complete you’ll receive a wristband that MUST be worn at all times throughout the convention weekend. Wristbands are NOT to be removed and will NOT be replaced if lost.

Forms of Vaccination Proof

  • A physical vaccination card(s) that has your proof of treatment from the vaccination site
  • If proof of vaccination was sent to you electronically, you can open the email (or log in) for us and show us the attachment/information sent from your vaccination site. You MUST open the email from your account (or login) in front of us to ensure that the vaccination information belongs to you.
  • We WILL NOT accept screenshots/pictures

Medical Exemptions

If you are unable to receive a vaccination against COVID-19 you must provide a valid doctor’s note stating you are unable to receive a vaccination in addition to a negative COVID-19 Test.  The doctor’s note and negative COVOD-19 test must be dated no earlier than 5/26/2022.

Children Ages 11 or Younger

Children ages 11 and under – ALL children under the age of 11 who cannot be vaccinated must have a negative COVID test dated no earlier than 5/26/2022.

Should a vaccination for children ages 11 and under be approved, our team will revisit this and update the policy as needed.

Badge Shipping

We will not be shipping badges to those who pre-register for the convention. Since we need to verify you meet the aforementioned requirements, everyone must pick their badge up at the on-site registration booths.

Mask Mandate

Everyone in attendance will be required to wear a mask covering their mouth and nose at all times in the convention spaces. We’ll also be providing everyone in attendance one free AnimeNEXT branded cloth mask during badge pickup. Who doesn’t like freebies?

This includes:

  • Taking cosplay photos
  • While you are not actively putting food/drink into your mouth
  • Talking to others
  • On your cell phone
  • If it isn’t clear we’ll spell it out… All times means ALL TIMES

Deferral Application

We understand that not everyone may be able to meet these requirements or may still not wish to attend for personal reasons. This is why we’ve also taken the extra steps to make sure that we can accommodate those community members as well.

For those who do not wish to attend or are unvaccinated, you’ll have a chance to fill out a deferral form. Once you fill out this form our team will automatically defer your memberships until all COVID-19 registration requirements have been lifted. Should your stance change or you receive a full vaccination treatment you will need to reach out to our support team to be removed from the list once added.

We’ve sent this form out via email to everyone who has a deferred membership (originally from 2020). Please make sure to check all tabs (social, promotions, etc) and any spam filters. The Deferral Application must be filled out prior to 2/28/22.

You can view more information about 2020 Memberships in our Help Article here.

Guests In Their Own Words

Instead of paraphrasing or copy/pasting the same bios available online, our Team has come up with an innovative way for our Guests to describe themselves to you. Ranging from key roles they want to highlight, to fun facts, and random bits of knowledge! Best of all it’s directly in their own words!

Any of the bold and underlined text is a direct quote from our Guests. The twist is, they don’t always know what questions they are answering. Leading to some really funny moments. 😂

You can visit our schedule page for more information about how to participate in our Guest’s events.

Guest Updates Coming Soon!

We know you’re eager to see who’ll be at the convention.

You can check back later for more updates!

Dorothy Fahn

You know me best as Lillymon from Digimon, or my recent role as Mercedes Von Martritz from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. A challenging role for me was Chihiro from Danganronpa Trigger Happy Havoc because it was hard to “find” a fluid voice. A hobby I’ve pursued during this past year was cooking. Three things I can’t live without are: coffee, my iPhone, and lots of books.

You know me best as Masaki Kurosaki from Bleach, or my recent role as Agatha of the Elite Four from Pokemon Generations. A challenging role for me was my work in Lupin because voicing numerous characters and making them unique can be difficult. Hobbies I’ve pursued during this past year are pilates, yoga, astrology, and genealogy. Three things I can’t live without are: my family, my career, and my dreams.

Katsura Sunshine

Katsura Sunshine began in entertainment as a playwright, composer, and producer of musical theatre. In 2008 he became the 15th apprentice to the great Rakugo Master Katsura Bunshi VI, from whom he received the name Katsura Sunshine. A challenging role for me was playing a fictitious version of myself from the movie Fame-ish because I had a completely different life and family. A hobby I’ve pursued during this past year was music production. Three things I can’t live without are: my wife Sandy, our pets (Angel, Tino, Daisy, and Baci!), and my guitar.

Richard Epcar

You know me best as either Raiden from Mortal Kombat, or my recent role as Joseph Joestar from JoJo’s. A challenging role for me was The Joker from Injustice because everyone has their own image of what the character should be and it took a lot of effort to get it just right. A hobby I’ve pursued during this past year was online gin rummy. Three things I can’t live without are: family, my career, and kindness.

Blending humor, musical performances, games, and thoughtful critique of the media we consume, NYSX has created a loyal community that has found acceptance in the oversaturated Twitch space. We wear our passions on our sleeves, are not afraid of a difficult conversation, and most importantly, stay genuine while creating content with a conscience.

ZandraNightshade

The name’s Zandra but you can call me Zara or Z! I’m a designer, artist, and audio content creator. I really like the adrenaline rush from horror games a little bit too much (yikes) so you’ll see me dabbling in the Resident Evil series, Dead By Daylight and other horror games I can get my grubby hands on. Feel free to join in on the tomfoolery and good vibes!

We Stand With #BLM

As an organization that prides itself on our diverse staff and the culture of inclusion, we feel obligated to take a stance on current affairs.

AnimeNEXT is against all forms of behavior that marginalize any group of people. Such actions have no place in today’s society, and neither do the people that propagate these beliefs.

Senseless brutality based on the color of someone’s skin is barbaric. We are all human beings and as such should treat each other with dignity and respect. Children do not see the world based on skin color yet somehow many adults define their misguided beliefs by it.

We at, AnimeNEXT, proudly stand with the African American community in the pursuit of equality. We will be with all of you every step of the way until justice is not something reserved for the few, but the many.

Stay safe, stay vocal, stay vigilant, and forever remain persistent.

Sincerely,
Bryan Long
Convention Chairman
